# What is a correspondent bank?

A **correspondent bank** is an intermediary bank for your SWIFT transaction. The SWIFT code of your correspondent bank is needed to process your transaction smoothly.

## **How to get a valid correspondent SWIFT code?**
You can ask your recipient to contact their bank and inquire directly about the correspondent SWIFT code, or you can usually find this information on the recipient bank’s official website.

## **Things to note regarding correspondent SWIFT code**
* The correspondent SWIFT code is **optional** but **recommended**.
    * If the correspondent SWIFT code is not provided or is invalid, your transaction may be **rejected**, and the correspondent bank fee **will not be refunded.**
* Correspondent banks can **change** at any time, so please double-check the correspondent SWIFT code before creating a transaction.
* The format of the correspondent SWIFT code is the same as other SWIFT codes.
