Here's how to verify recipient’s identity in South Korea

  1. The recipient will receive a verification link via KakaoTalk/SMS.
  2. Open the link, select Verify, and choose the same ID type that was used to open the recipient's bank account. Accepted ID types:
    • Korean recipients: Resident Registration Card or Driver's License only.
    • Foreign recipients: Passport only.
  3. Enter the recipient's ID details, then click Next.
  4. Upload a photo of the recipient's ID (not a scanned photo), then tap Next.
  5. Confirm the bank account by inputting the last 4 digits of the recipient's bank account number.
  6. The recipient will receive KRW 1 in their bank account. Please ask the recipient to check their transaction history and input the 4 unique codes after the letter "S", example: S1234.

If the recipient doesn't have e-banking, they can check the unique codes from:

  • Their bank account book.
  • The ATM machine (without having to print out the account book).
  • The customer service of the recipient's bank.

The verification process will take 1x24 hours (banking days only), and your money will be deposited directly into the recipient’s bank account once the verification is successful.

PS:

  • Once the recipient receives the verification link, please make sure they can get their ID successfully verified within 72 hours after the transaction is created.
  • The recipient doesn't need to download any other app and only has to verify their identity from the link through KakaoTalk/SMS. Therefore, please make sure that the recipient’s phone number is active.
  • The recipient should be 14 years or older.
